How to obtain an FAA Pilot Medical Certificate

There are 5 steps required to obtain a pilot medical certificate:

1. Before visiting your chosen Aviation Medical Examiner (AME), you must first complete an official FAA application form via their web site: MedXPress. After completing this web application, you will be given confirmation number. You will need to take this with you when you see the AME.

3. Schedule your Appointment by phone or electronically (many AMEs offer online scheduling)
4. Bring your confirmation number to the Flight Physical appointment where you will undergo a thorough physical examination and medical history review at the AME's office. More info on Exam Preparation.
5. If you meet the appropriate medical standards, the AME will issue you an aviation medical certificate during the visit.
